Today’s success track is focused on YOU utilizing the Power of Association to improve your business and your life.
I’ve been a student of human behavior for since 1987 when I was introduced to Dr Denis Waitley’s book The Psychology of Winning. His words sparked my interested and I’ve been a student ever since. Just last week I posted a short video clip on Instagram on the Power of Association from a live event I recently did in Kansas City and received lots of positive feedback and shares, so I thought I would talk about it.
You all know about classical conditioning from Ivan Povlov’s work in the early 1900’s, which led to the father of behaviorism, John B. Watson, then of course the incredible work of B.F. Skinner. Without getting too deep, how does the work of these three iconic psychologists impact our lives? (if you want to know more about the big three, go to my youtube channel and look at the psychology playlist)
In short script, here’s the game summary: How we present ourselves to people on a daily basis impacts how people feel about us? Think about it, if you consistently present yourself with a negative attitude, or all always focused on what’s wrong with the given situation, in a short period of time, you’ll create a negative association about yourself. What that means is, whenever someone sees you or even hears your voice, they start to feel negative, or event depressed. On the other hand, if every time you show up, you are positive or optimistic, you create a positive association with other people. It’s the same principle we all experience when we hear a song on the radio that instantly makes us feel good. It’s an association… it’s conditioning.
Here’s my message that will impact your business and your life, and it goes like this: People like to do business with people that make them feel good. I’m going to repeat that; people like to do business with people that make them feel good. Think about it, if you were the consumer and all things are fairly equal, the product, the price, the terms, etc. With that being said, one of the sales professionals was optimistic and positive, and the other is sarcastic, negative and always talking about what could go wrong, who would you rather do business with? The answer is simple. People like to do business with people that make them feel good. Ahh, and a big news flash here, that goes for relationships as well.
So start today and create positive associations with your business relationships, your prospects and most importantly, your friends and your loved ones. Great job today… and remember, this is your year to Rise Above.Share...
