Today’s message is about Overcoming adversity, drive and hitting your goals.
So I find myself in a unique situation, obviously qualified to talk about this subject. I’ve always been a very disciplined person and always have been a “goal achiever” – someone who sets his sites on something and makes it happen. I’m in different situation now.
Those of you who don’t’ know, I’m battling a deadly blood disease right now. I’ve just finished my 22nd treatment of chemo, traveling back and forth to Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN every week while battling my insurance company… just the sorts of things that could EASILY set someone back.
I have people come to me all the time and ask “How to you do it?” “How are you staying so up?” “How are you staying so positive?” The short answer is there really is no alternative for me, yet when I talk about this in relationship to YOU being your very best and you hitting YOUR goals, is about “What you SEE for YOURSELF!”
I’ve always been a believer in how we move towards the things we see for ourselves. The challenge is many people don’t see themselves achieving the goals they would like to achieve. If you’re not able to consistently see yourself driving that special car, making a certain amount of money, then you won’t do the things necessary to get there. It’s just not real for you.
As I’m in my current situation, I recently had a very good friend of mine ask me… How are you doing?… I mean how are you REALLY doing?” He asked me the question, “when did you cry?” “I mean did you cry about it?” I replied with “About what?” He said, “you know, when you were diagnosed?” My reply: “No, I never have. In fact, my wife and I have never sat on the couch and cried about what could be.” The reason why is I’ve never seen myself dying because of this situation. I see myself winning. I see myself living a full life. I see myself jogging on the beach with Jennifer. I see myself doing things with my kids. I don’t see myself in a hospital room, hooked up to an i.v. while I take my last breath. That may seem over dramatic, ye if I was thinking about that, I’m sure I would be sad and I’m sure I wouldn’t be compelled to move forward.
I’m still performing keynote talks and traveling around the country. I’m finishing up my sales book, and I’m doing the things I would normally do.
The question is HOW DO YOU DO IT?
My answer goes back to my original statement; it’s the vision. It’s the things you SEE for YOURSELF. I see myself living. I see myself thriving. I see myself having a long, successful career. I see myself performing keynote talks all over the world. I see myself raising my speaking fee each and every year. As a result of those visions, I am driven to do the daily tasks necessary to get to those places and achieve the things that I see for myself.
In regards to you reaching your dreams and hitting your goals, crushing your quota, or whatever it is you want to do – the first thing you must do is you have to SEE it. If you can’t see it for yourself, nobody else will either. You seeing it for yourself, feeling it, believing it will allow you to take that step forward… to make that extra sales call; to go to that networking meeting, or really prepare and do a great job on your next presentation.
My message to you today is to really think about what you want to do, what your goal really is. You must VISUALIZE it, you must FEEL it and you must SEE it. You must place yourself in your mental picture and allow yourself to BE there. You must allow yourself to “BE THERE” because that will get you up early, do the things you don’t want to do, and do the extra things that make successful people successful.
As you know, successful people will do what the failure and underachievers won’t. It’s not because they underachievers are bad people – successful people simply see themselves differently.
So make that happen today – think about where you want to be and see the picture. If you want help with this, you can always reach me at DanLier.com or if you want coaching from me on a daily basis, go to crushyourquota.com – That’s where the champions live!
Make it a great month.Share...
