sorry for the delay, your comment was lost in the spam. There is a delicate balance between acting like you have it and what "he" is saying... that if you tell your friends what you are "doing," it actually gives your mind the false sense of accomplishment. My feelings are to tell people what you are "working on" rather than what you are "doing," Small shift in language, yet "working on it" means "IN progress." When u are "in Progress," your brain knows you still haven't achieved it yet and keeps the drive alive. With all that being said... different things work for different people. Thanks for sharing. - Dan

Dan,

Thanks for posting the piece on "balance." You always share great stuff DL. Nigel made me ponder the "rat race" that has shaped our lifestyle and he provided some good insights in such a short period of time. One of the things that has helped me out in recent years is to stop myself whenever I begin the pattern of comparing myself to others. Trying to celebrate being my best rather than always measuring my best against that of others. It seems like ever since I was a kid and growing up thats all I did...evaluate my performance and strengths against others. There's always someone out there that makes you look like you are standing still. Let's face it, its a competitive world. And if you want to have great sex a few times a day like Nigel suggests, then you not only have to make the time, you also have to sleigh some dragons to earn those opportunities. Its a continuous challenge for me...balancing my desire (and societies high status) for being a fierce competitor, but at the same time realizing that the greatest prizes are often-times at home just wanting to take a walk to the park with Dad.

I "get" what he is saying, and in theory there could be alot of truth to it. But then why is there so much hype in the last few years about acting and believing and living as if its already yours? Putting it out there, putting yourself out there. In order to make it a reality, people would be inclined to tell those close to them. Its tough to keep something so important to yourself-and not share it with others. Moreover, if you tell others this is what you are going to achieve, then you should hold yourself to it. You dont want to let yourself down, or them.

I think Steve Wynn is spot on. Our government officials are out of control. There is no reason a state such as California should be bankrupt or on the verge. Our politicians in Washington have forgotten that it is capitalism that made us so great in the first place. We needed to let some of the businesses fail in order for others to expand and lead the way. Instead, the bailouts will be our downfall.
